postheadericon Interreligious Understanding and Peace Education

Throughout Asia, tensions and conflicts arising from religious, ethnic, economic and political difference have been increasing in number, scope, and severity. Working in partnership with Asian higher education institutions as agents of peace, the United Board is developing programs in interreligious understanding and peace education that train faculty and students, and engage local communities through service and experiential learning. Responding to the cultural, religious, and even organizational diversity across the region, most participating institutions have inaugurated projects that reflect particular local interests and needs. At the same time, a number of institutions are working collaboratively and cultivating networks that cross religious, institutional, community, and regional boundaries. Pilot projects in China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, and Thailand are underway.
