Environment

The Environment Initiative seeks to train the next generation of environmental advocates.  The initiative will use the transformative power of education to develop the enhanced knowledge, values, attitudes, commitment and skills required to protect and improve the environment.

Using the model developed in the United Board’s successful Coastal Resource Management Project, the initiative will focus on both land and coastal habitats.

  • For coasts, it will concentrate on issues of sustainability.
  • For land, it will concentrate on environment and health.

In both foci, the United Board will directly associate with colleges and universities – and the communities in which they operate – to address issues within the community context.  It seeks through education, research and hands-on experience to empower people to actively control their own environment.

The initiative will build on the findings of a United Board survey of Asian universities on environmental issues and on a June 2009 consultation, which brought together educators, administrators, and private/public agencies interested in environmental projects
