Inter-Religious Understanding & Peace Building

Respecting diverse religious beliefs and promoting dialogues that explore unifying elements are integral parts of the United Board’s mission.  The Inter-Religious Understanding & Peace Building Initiative works with partner institutions to support projects that build a shared understanding of the region’s religious traditions and consider differences within a substantive context of history and culture.

The specific nature of the projects undertaken in this Initiative will be based on the local context and priorities of our regional partners, but projects are likely to address:

  • Peace studies in the Asian setting;
  • Inter-religious liturgy and sacred music;
  • Gender equality and spirituality; and
  • Religion and the environment.

The United Board also will explore means to share the Asian experience in interreligious understanding with larger bodies, such as the Parliament of the World’s Religions.

A regional consultation on this initiative was held in November.  Please continue to check our website for updates.
