HE Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, former prime minister of Thailand, gives keynote remarks at the AULP.
The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), formally established on 31 December 2015, marks a major milestone in ASEAN’s regional economic integration agenda. For higher education leaders in the region, it’s an opportunity to develop the learning framework and curricula to support ASEAN’s core principles of free flow of goods, services, investment, capital and skilled labor. At the United Board’s Asian University Leaders Program, held June 29 to July 1 in Bangkok, 76 leaders and administrators focused their attention on the theme of ASEAN Challenges and Opportunities for Christian Higher Education in Asia.
His Excellency Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, former prime minister of Thailand, was the keynote speaker. He called for educators to help students master information and make use of it for a better world. Education should be about principles and values, and it should guide students toward ways in which they can live out their values in concrete ways. Other speakers provided additional perspectives on challenges and opportunities through presentations on academic leadership at a time of reform; the ASEAN University Network; internationalization, mobility, and harmony; academic exchange programs; and developing human capital.
The United Board expresses its appreciation to Assumption University for hosting the AULP on its campus in Bangkok.
