Trustee and Former Vice President for Finance & Administration
It is with great sadness that the United Board announces that our dear colleague and friend, Candy Eng, passed away on December 6. Over the course of nearly two decades, Candy served the United Board with a unique combination of energy and grace, holding staff positions as Vice President for Finance & Administration (1998-2008) and as Interim President (July 2010 – January 2011). While she retired from the staff, she never left our United Board family: in 2011, she began service on our Board of Trustees and in 2012, she added the role of treasurer. We cherished her integrity, empathy, and gentle humor, and her professional skills and dedication expanded our circle of friends and supporters.
Candy graduated from New York University with a degree in finance and accounting, and her financial acumen was a talent she generously shared in service to others. Before joining the United Board, she held senior staff positions at Doctors Without Borders and Lutheran World Relief. She also served on the board of The Interchurch Center and on the finance committee of the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Candy was devoted to her family – her husband, Vincent; her children and granddaughter; her mother and siblings – and our hearts and prayers go out to them. We are humbled and grateful that her family has requested that donations in Candy’s memory be made to the United Board. Donations can be made online (https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/unitedboard) or checks can be mailed to either of our two offices, at the addresses at the end of this message.
A memorial service for Candy will be held on Tuesday, January 17 at 11:00 am, at
