The Asian Academy of Campus Ministry (AACM) is an initiative of the United Board to build the capacity of Asian university campuses for fostering spiritual development of their students and to better prepare campus ministers for their ever-evolving role that extends to student well-being and mental health. AACM 2024 was completed in early May and took 29 chaplains, campus ministers, academics and administrators from seven countries to three university campuses in Indonesia to immerse in a multi-faith learning experience. This is the third in a series of three profiles of the notable participants in AACM 2024.

Meet Rev. Nani Minarni, University Chaplain of Duta Wacana Christian University (UKDW) and a beacon of compassion and leadership at the university. With a vision as expansive as her compassion, Nani serves as the Head of Campus Ministry in addition to being a dedicated lecturer. Her journey, driven by faith, cross-cultural understanding, and a passion for fostering connections, has been nothing short of inspiring.

Nani starts each day with a smile and a purpose. She collaborates with her team to design, manage, and organize programs that touch every corner of campus life at UKDW. From spirituality and mental health initiatives to creating engaging educational content for the social media, Nani's efforts ensure that every student or staff member feels supported and valued.

Nani's journey took a pivotal turn when she became involved with United Board-sponsored programs. In 2017, she received training from Dr. Tom Hastings in Tokyo, learning the art of university chaplaincy. This experience was just the beginning. In 2018, she participated in the first Asian Academy of Campus Ministry (AACM) meeting in Tokyo, sharing insights on interfaith student development and discussing the challenges and opportunities in campus ministry. Fast forward to 2023, Nani took part in the AACM program in the Philippines, exploring the theological basis and multifaceted roles of campus ministry. These experiences culminated in 2024 when she became a panelist at the AACM in Yogyakarta, sharing best practices of a multi-faith campus ministry model.

Her 11 years as an interfaith activist have deeply influenced her leadership style, emphasizing responsibility, totality, and trustworthiness. As a participant and organizer of AACM, supported by the United Board, Nani has developed campus ministry services that are integrated, relevant, and inclusive. She champions a "servant and learner leader" model, constantly evolving to meet challenges effectively and compassionately.

Nani's role as a campus minister is unique. She creates inclusive spiritual spaces, facilitates interfaith dialogues, and coordinates cultural celebrations. Her efforts in organizing community service projects and educational workshops on cultural competence and conflict resolution have built bridges across cultural divides, fostering a harmonious campus environment.
