Dr. Shailesh Shah

Shailesh Shah has been a leading senior risk executive in the financial services sector for over 30 years. Coupling deep risk expertise with operating experience, he has led key global initiatives for major financial corporations including JP Morgan, General Electric, State Street Corporation, and UBS.
Dr. Shah has extensive experience with Board of Directors Risk and Audit Committees in risk appetite setting and governance frameworks, including risk assessment of investment strategies and effectively managing regulatory expectations with key regulators in the United States, Switzerland, APAC, and UK.
Dr. Shah’s expertise covers a wide range of investment areas including wealth management; institutional spread business; derivatives; treasury asset-liability; capital and liquidity management; and market, credit, and model risk management.
Most recently Dr. Shah was the Group Managing Director and Chief Risk Officer for the Wealth Management division of UBS group based in Zurich before retiring in 2018.
Dr. Shah serves on the Investment Committee of the United Board and has previously served on the Investment Committee of the Harvard-Yenching Institute, Boston. He also serves on the advisory boards of two London, U.K.–based technology start-ups.
Dr. Shah received a PhD in theoretical physics from Leeds University, U.K. in 1982 and his undergraduate degree from Liverpool University, U.K. in 1977.
