Dr. Kuan is the President of the Association of United Methodist Theological Schools, Chair of the Commission on Theological Education of the University Senate of The United Methodist Church, as well as member of, among others, the Board of Directors of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, the In Trust Center for Theological Schools, and the International Association of Methodist-related Schools, Colleges and Universities.

Dr. Kuan is President Emeritus, Professor of Hebrew Bible, and Senior Advisor to the President at the Claremont School of Theology in Claremont, California.  He earned his Ph.D. in Old Testament studies at Emory University.  His research and teaching interests include ancient Israelite and Near Eastern history, Asian and Asian American hermeneutics, as well as approaches to biblical instruction for the churches.  As a theological educator, Dr. Kuan is a strong proponent of religious pluralism and passionately committed to justice issues in the global and local contexts.
