Dr. Marcia B. France joined the United Board in March 2026. A passionate advocate for whole person education, her work for United Board focuses on supporting women’s leadership, environmental sustainability, and climate change initiatives. She is based in the Chiang Mai office.
Marcia brings over 30 years of experience in higher education as a faculty member and administrator, most recently as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Fulbright University Vietnam. Previously, she was the inaugural Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Associate Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Studies and the Language and Culture Center at Duke Kunshan University in China, where she oversaw the launch and implementation of an interdisciplinary liberal arts curriculum serving a global student body representing 70 different countries. Before moving to Asia, she was the John T. Herwick, M.D. Professor of Chemistry at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, where she also served as Associate Dean of the College and Associate Provost. Marcia earned her SB in chemistry from MIT, her MS in chemistry from Yale University, and her PhD in organic chemistry from Caltech.
