Online Course on “Service-Learning for Faculty in Asia” (April – July 2025)
To support faculty members across Asia in effectively implementing service-learning within their institutions, the United Board invites applications for the “Service-Learning for Faculty in Asia” online course. This course is designed and conducted by Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore—a leader in service-learning pedagogy since 2016.
Why Join this Course
Service-learning is a transformative educational approach that combines academic learning with meaningful community engagement. Its benefits are profound: enhanced academic performance, teamwork skills, problem-solving abilities, self-esteem, and a greater sense of citizenship. Recognizing its potential to holistically transform individuals, the United Board has been actively promoting service-learning in higher education since the late 1990s.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic has successfully integrated service-learning into its curriculum, training more than 700 staff and impacting over 20,000 students. With over 150 community partners engaged and 110 service-learning modules offered, this institution has set a benchmark in the field.
Building on the success of previous cohorts in 2023 and 2024—with over 60 faculty members across Asia completing the program—this third run promises to equip participants with the skills and tools necessary to design and implement impactful service-learning initiatives tailored to their local contexts. Junior faculty new to service-learning will benefit the most from this course.
